Since 2011, American Power Unit, LLC, has been providing ranchers far and wide with successful, high-quality solar powered livestock water systems combined with outstanding customer service. Warren Louis, owner and operator, has been passionate about his work and the community he serves from the beginning and is looking forward to continuing this great service for many years to come.

Born in Columbus, Nebraska, Warren moved to New Mexico and Montana After a tour of duty in the Marine Corps he obtained his BSEE at the University of New Mexico in January of 1970. Warren then worked in various types of power generation systems as an electrical engineer for twenty years. After retiring, he became an instructor at Montana State University – Billings College of Technology. He set up a class project that attempted to provide a solar stock watering system for a rancher. The project was a complete success and once his contract ended with the university, he established American Power Unit, LLC , specializing in Solar-powered stock water systems to remote sites.

The success of his solar powered livestock water system comes on the backing of great pumps. Warren was able to come to the decision of choosing various water pumps for his product after his many years as an engineer, his extensive network of colleagues in the business, and his long days and nights researching and finding the best water pump to place in his system. “The “heart” of the solar system is the submersible pump, which pumps water up from the ground and push it out via pipeline to water tanks all over the pasture, even uphill,” Louis said. “There are only two wires that are easily connected from the pump head to the solar panels,” he added. “There are no batteries. It is really simple – when the sun shines on the panels the system pumps water.”
